Prove that ∠PRO = 𝜃 3 in the construction (10.18).

Proof. Let α = ∠PRO . Since QR = QO = 1 , QRO is isosceles, so ∠QOR = α . Therefore the external angle ∠OQP = 2 α . Since OQ = OP = 1 , OPQ is isosceles, so

∠OQP = ∠OPQ = 2 α .

Therefore ∠QOP = π 4 α . Since ∠ROQ + ∠QOP + 𝜃 = π , α + ( π 4 α ) + 𝜃 = π , so 𝜃 = 3 α ,

∠PRO = 𝜃 3 .
