$w = (5, 7)$ is $5 u + 7 v$ . Then $A w$ equals 5 times $A u$ plus 7 times $A v$ . Linearity means: When $w$ is a combination of $u$ and $v$ , then $A w$ is the same combination of $A u$ and $Av$ .
