Subtract $- \frac{1}{2}$ (or add $\frac{1}{2}$ ) times equation 1 . The new second equation is $3 y = 3$ . Then $y = 1$ and $x = 5$ . If the right side changes sign, so does the solution: $(x, y) = (- 5, - 1)$ .
