Answers

The $(1, 1)$ entry requires $4 a - 3 b = 1$ ; the $(1, 2)$ entry requires $2 b - a = 0$ . Then $b = \frac{1}{5}$ and $a = \frac{2}{5}$ . For the 5 by 5 case $5 a - 4 b = 1$ and $2 b = a$ give $b = \frac{1}{6}$ and $a = \frac{2}{6}$ .
