Then

∂E ∂C = 2 C + 2 ( C + D 8 ) + 2 ( C + 3 D 8 ) + 2 ( C + 4 D 20 ) = 0

and

∂E ∂D = 1 2 ( C + D 8 ) + 3 2 ( C + 3 D 8 ) + 4 2 ( C + 4 D 20 ) = 0 .

These two normal equations are again
