$M$ is antisymmetric and also orthogonal. Since all its eigenvalues are pure imaginary (Why? TODO), and the $trace (M) = 0$ , we have $\sum_{i = 1}^{4} λ_{i} = 0$ , so $M$ can only have eigenvalues $i$ or $- i$ .
