Choose the maximum among two linear functions create a piecewise linear function. If the original functions are continuous, the maximum of them is also continuous.
The sum of two CPL is also CPL. We are always adding two linear functions.
For each $x$ , we first apply a linear transformation using $F_{1}$ , then we apply a second linear function $F_{2}$ , the composition stays linear.
