If $x, y$ are in $R^{n}$ , then: * $x (y^{T} x)$ : It takes $n + n = 2 n$ multiplications * $(x y^{T}) x$ : It takes $n^{2} + n^{2} = 2 n^{2}$ multiplications

So it’s faster to multiply $x (y^{T} x)$
