Evaluate ( n , n + 1 ) and [ n , n + 1 ] where n is a positive integer.

Proof. Since ( n + 1 ) n = 1 ,

n ( n + 1 ) = 1 .

Then Theorem 1.13, applied to n > 0 , n + 1 > 0 shows that

n ( n + 1 ) = n ( n + 1 ) .
