Show that the midpoint of the line segment joining the points (a,b) and (c,d) is ((a + c)2,(b + d)2).

Proof. The vector that emanates from (a,b) and terminates at the midpoint should be 1 2(c a,d b). Thus, the coordinate of the midpoint will be

(a,b) + 1 2(c a,d b) = (a + c 2 , b + d 2 ).
