Let $C_{1}, C_{2}, \dots, C_{n}$ be the columns of $M$ . Let $a_{1} C_{1} + a_{2} C_{2} + \dots + a_{n} C_{n} = 0$ then we have $a_{n} = 0$ by comparing the $n$ -th entry. And inductively we have $a_{n - 1} = 0, a_{n - 2} = 0, \dots, a_{1} = 0$ .
