By Theorem 3.2 $E^{- 1}$ is an elementary matrix of the same type if $E$ is. So if $Q$ can be obtained from $P$ , we can write $Q = EP$ and hence $E^{- 1} Q = P$ . This means $P$ can be obtained from $Q$ .
