Because $W$ is a $T$ -invariant subspace, we know that $T (v_{i}) \in W$ for $v_{i} \in γ$ . This means the representation of $T (v_{i})$ corresponding the basis $β$ only use the vectors in $γ$ for each $v_{i} \in γ$ . So one corner of the matrix representation would be zero.
