Exercise 5.4.36
Answers
First observe that a one-dimensional -invariant subspace is equivalent to a subspace spanned by an eigenvector. Second, is the direct sum of some one-dimensional subspaces if and only if the set obtained by choosing one nonzero vector from each subspace forms a basis. Combining these two observation we get the result.
