Check that $β$ is an orthonormal basis. So we have the coefficients of $(3, 4)$ are

(3, 4) \cdot (\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}, \frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}) = \frac{7}{\sqrt{2}}

and

(3, 4) \cdot (\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}, - \frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}) = - \frac{1}{\sqrt{2}} .
