If all the data is from one class, then $α_{n}^{∗} = 0$ for $n = 1, \dots, N$ .

(a): $w^{∗} = \sum_{n = 1}^{N} y_{n} α_{n}^{∗} x_{n} = 0$
(b): Since all $α_{n}^{∗} = 0$ , we can apply KKT conditions here to obtain $b^{∗}$ . To satisfy the constraints on the primal optimization problem, we need to have $b \geq 1$ if all points are positive.
